Apache Geronimo
Open Source J2EE 1.4 Application Server
Geronimo is an open source J2EE application server being developed by the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). The Apache Geronimo project began in August 2003, with the goal of creating a fully compliant J2EE 1.4 application server, using other open source Java components as building blocks. In 2004, the ASF promoted the project for "incubator" status to a "top-level" project. The project's primary goal is to create a fully certified J2EE 1.4 application server available under the Apache software license.Latest News on Apache Geronimo

Geronimo "milestone" versions are being released to allow developers to start using the server. Each milestone release represents a step towards the 1.0 release of a certified J2EE server. Geronimo's first milestone release came out in April 29, 2004. A second milestone version was released Sept. 9, 2004, and third came out Nov. 10, 2004. Each milestone added J2EE capabilities and additional server features. Geronimo is targeting a 1.0 release in 2005.

Eclipse WTP Apache Geronimo Server Adapter
The plug-in is part of the Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP) project and can be used to stop and start Geronimo from Eclipse, create and deploy web projects for Geronimo (including a GUI screen to create a basic Geronimo webapp deployment plan), and debug a Geronimo application from within Eclipse. The plug-in became available in May 2005 and requires a bit of software installation before you can get it to work.
